Friday Night Lights
LOGAN - Logan went absolutely nuts last night. The Grizzlies scored 48 points in the quarter and put 70 on Providence Hall, bouncing back in a big way after last week's loss to Pine View.
Easton Favero threw four touchdown passes, spreading them around to Royce Sargent (yes, he’s a freshman), Trey Covington and Jase Pingree twice. Pingree was probably the player of the night: he caught TD passes of 3 and 57 yards, then opened the second half with a 92-yard kickoff return touchdown.
Mason Birch also scored three 1-yard rushing touchdowns. Let’s not forget about Logan's defense. Nash Redd had a 32-yard pick-six, followed later in the second quarter by Ethan Carson's 37-yard interception return for another touchdown.
GREEN CANYON - Green Canyon needed this one. After three straight losses, the Wolves got their first Region 11 win with a convincing 33-7 road victory over Deseret Peak. Green Canyon had been stuck at 0-3 since beating Provo in the opener, so getting back in the win column was huge.
QB Ethan Munk remains the guy everything runs through offensively. Munk had a 61% completion rate, along with a touchdown and 210 passing yards. Running back Seth Selman had 8 carries for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns.
RIDGELINE - Ridgeline somehow looks even more dominant. The Riverhawks scored 55 points in the first half Friday and cruised past Tooele 62-0 for their 19th straight win dating back to last season. Hudson Parry took the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, and it never really slowed down from there.
Noah Fiefia continues to be a problem. Are we surprised? He scored three rushing touchdowns. Crew Cox threw three touchdown passes — two to Owen Leishman and one to Brock Merkley — before adding a rushing touchdown himself.
The defense also played really well. Jaxon Zollinger returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown, and Ridgeline recorded four sacks and held Tooele scoreless. Ridgeline has now outscored its first five opponents 229-75!
MOUNTAIN CREST - Mountain Crest is suddenly in a tough stretch. The Mustangs started 3-0, but back-to-back losses to Ridgeline and Sky View. Brady Muir threw three first-half interceptions, and Mountain Crest didn't score until the fourth quarter.
QB Muir deserves some credit. He threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, finding Mason Bradford for a 19-yard score with 6:05 left and Kael Olsen from 14 yards out with 2:03 remaining.
Despite the three interceptions, Muir, Bradford and Olsen nearly turned a rough night into a comeback win.
SKY VIEW - That was a big one for Sky View. After losing three straight — with the previous two losses coming by just six combined points — the Bobcats finally closed one out, beating Mountain Crest 20-14 on homecoming night. Defense was the main reason, forcing four turnovers and even stopping MC twice more on downs.
Tucker Stokes hit Rad Sparrow for a 56-yard touchdown to give Sky View a 10-0 halftime lead. Sparrow entered the week averaging 89 rushing yards per game and leading the Bobcats with four total touchdowns, so he's definitely one of the guys to watch when Sky View needs a big play.
But the defensive guys stole the show. Will Alder, Dracen Shepard and Gustavo Gonzales all intercepted Brady Muir, with Alder's pick coming in the end zone. Jordan Hoyt was also huge, drilling field goals from 47 and 32 yards, while Peyton Palmer added a 1-yard touchdown.
BEAR RIVER - This one got away from Bear River quickly. The Bears tied it 7-7 late in the first quarter when Preston Wilkinson found Rigdon Vonk for an 11-yard touchdown, but Stansbury scored 45 unanswered from there to win 52-7. This loss hurts, but the Bears still have enough playmakers to make a statement against Tooele next week.
VARSITY CLUB 🏅
LOGAN
⛳ Boys Golf - Logan shot a 329 at a state tournament prep region event held at Carbon Country Club. The Grizzlies claimed third, led by an impressive round from Braden Anderson, who shot a 76 to finish fifth individually. Logan has two tournaments this week - one at El Monte on Sept. 14 and a region tournament at Logan River on the 17th.
🏐 Volleyball - Logan took down Ben Lomond in straight sets, winning 3-0 at home. They improve to 4-9 overall and are now 1-0 in region play. Cadence Boyer led the way with 14 assists and 7 aces. Nagtalon also had 7 digs with 3 aces.
⚽ Girls Soccer - Logan picked up a nice 2-1 road win over Grantsville on Tuesday. They are now 3-5 overall on the year, and .500 in region play.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Logan had a tough draw this week, going on the road Wednesday against undefeated Grantsville. The Grizzlies were swept 5-0, but Avyree Stacy made things competitive at third singles, while the first-doubles team of Sarah Willden and Louisa Ricks pushed Grantsville all the way to a first-set tiebreaker.
GREEN CANYON
⛳ Boys Golf - Green Canyon put together a solid round at Overlake on Thursday, finishing third in Region 11 with a 305. Finn Patterson and Wyatt Lagerholm led the Wolves with matching 75s, Gavin Spackman was right behind at 76, and Seth Anderson and Boston Griffin both shot 79. Five guys in the 70s is a pretty good showing.
🏐 Volleyball - Green Canyon has been on a tear. The Wolves swept Stansbury on Tuesday, then opened the UVU Invitational with 3-0 wins over Timpanogos and Timpview, extending their winning streak to 11 before finally falling to Syracuse. Audrey White has been the go-to hitter, averaging 4.7 kills per set with 23 aces, while Chloe Christiansen has 24 blocks on the year. Green Canyon is now 11-1 and ranked No. 1 in 4A.
⚽ Girls Soccer - The Wolves absolutely rolled Tooele 9-1 this week to improve to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in Region 11. Chloe Sadler has been ridiculous this season with 16 goals and 21 assists, while Jaycee Knight has added 12 goals.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Green Canyon stayed perfect in official Region 11 duals at 4-0 with a sweep of Mountain Crest. Sophie Anderson, Evelyn Wilkinson and Carly Huish swept the singles matches, while Norah Washburn/Ruby Warner and Amelia Wilkinson/Ellie Jones took care of doubles. Huish had the closest match, winning 7-6, 7-5, while Washburn and Warner have lost just once all season. This looks like another Green Canyon team with a legitimate shot at a region title.
RIDGELINE
⛳ Boys Golf - Ridgeline has a serious golf program. The Riverhawks won Thursday’s tournament at Overlake with a 284, beating second-place Sky View by 18 strokes. Porter Thomson took first individually with a 66 (-6), Asher Banham shot an even-par 72, and Beckham Skinner added a 73. Ridgeline had three of the top four finishers and five golfers break 80.
🏐 Volleyball - Ridgeline started the week with a really nice road win, sweeping Bear River 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 and handing the Bears their second loss of the season. The Riverhawks then headed south for a loaded tournament at UVU, where they dropped their opener to Idaho power Owyhee in four sets.
⚽ Girls Soccer - Ridgeline keeps winning close ones. The Riverhawks went on the road Wednesday and beat Stansbury 2-1, improving to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in Region 11. They’ve now won six region matches, with their only region loss coming to Green Canyon.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Ridgeline made quick work of Deseret Peak on Thursday with a 5-0 sweep, improving to 3-1 in Region 11. Brixten Henderson, Taylor Southam and Erica Wang rolled through singles, while first doubles partners Lindy and Silvie Ellis improved to 10-3 on the year. Southam is now 11-3 individually. Ridgeline is looking like Green Canyon’s biggest competition for the Region 11 title.
MOUNTAIN CREST
⛳ Boys Golf - Mountain Crest finished fifth at the Region 11 tournament at Overlake, shooting a 314 as a team — just one stroke ahead of Bear River. Korver Clark had the round of the day for the Mustangs with a 73, tying for fifth overall, while Ryland Sorensen also broke 80 with a 78.
🏐 Volleyball - Mountain Crest picked up a couple much-needed wins this week. The Mustangs beat Deseret Peak on Tuesday and followed it up by sweeping Tooele 3-0 at home. Makell Crofts had 30 assists, 9 digs, and 3 aces on the night. Whitney Madsen also had a solid game with 15 digs and 3 assists. It’s been a tough start to the year, but back-to-back region wins gives this group a little momentum for next week.
⚽ Girls Soccer - Probably the best Mountain Crest story of the week. The Mustangs went into Smithfield and shut out Sky View 3-0, improving to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in Region 11. Mountain Crest has now won two straight by a combined 8-1, and they’re sitting third in the region heading into Monday’s road match at Stansbury.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Mountain Crest ran into the top team in Rregion play on Thursday, falling 5-0 to undefeated Green Canyon. The final score looks pretty one-sided, but there were some competitive matches. Freshman Grace Hadfield pushed Carly Huish to 7-6, 7-5 at third singles, while Catie Bindrup and Sydney Linschoten made things interesting at second doubles.
SKY VIEW
⛳ Boys Golf - Sky View had a solid day at the Region 11 tournament at Overlake, finishing second with a 302 behind Ridgeline. Elliott Feser led the Bobcats with a 73, while Dylan Theurer shot 74, KJ Davis 77 and Austin Bauer 78.
🏐 Volleyball - Sky View volleyball keeps rolling. They went to Tooele on Tuesday and swept the Buffaloes 3-0, winning 25-14, 25-12 and 25-15. That makes five straight wins for Sky View and moves them to 8-6 after a 3-6 start. They’ve only dropped one set during the entire five-match winning streak, making it pretty clear they’re the team to beat in region.
⚽ Girls Soccer - It was a tougher week for Sky View soccer. The Bobcats fell 3-0 to Mountain Crest on Thursday, their third straight loss after also dropping matches to Ridgeline and Green Canyon. Sky View is now 6-5 overall and 4-3 in Region 11, but gets a good opportunity to bounce back with Deseret Peak coming to Smithfield Monday.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Sky View made a strong statement on Thursday, beating Bear River 4-1 on the road. Daivie Eldredge continues to have a great season, thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. Ashley Walls also won in straight sets at first singles. Both Bobcat doubles teams picked up wins, improving Sky View to 2-2 in region play.
BEAR RIVER
⛳ Boys Golf - Bear River continues to hang around the middle of region standings. The Bears entered the latest stretch sitting fifth in the region by scoring average, just barely ahead of Stansbury. BRHS finished sixth at Overlake on Thursday, shooting a 315 as a team and finishing just one stroke behind Mountain Crest. Kyler Harris had a really nice round for the Bears, shooting a 73 and tying for fifth overall. Bear River gets to stay close to home next week with region tournaments at Birch Creek and Logan Country Club.
🏐 Volleyball - A strong start finally hit a speed bump this week. Bear River had won eight of its first nine matches before Ridgeline swept the Bears 3-0 on Tuesday. Bear River still sits at 8-2, with Emry Evans leading the attack at 3.4 kills per set and Robbi Marble providing a big presence at the net. They’ll get Stansbury and Sky View at home next week.
⚽ Girls Soccer - This was probably the best Bear River story of the week. After a rough start to the season, the Bears picked up their second straight win, beating Deseret Peak 5-1 on the road. Maizie Williams had a hat trick and Emry Crowther scored twice. Bear River is now 2-9 overall and 2-5 in Region 11, with a big test against undefeated Green Canyon coming Monday.
🎾 Girls Tennis - Bear River has quietly put together some nice results in region play. The Bears went on the road and beat Tooele 4-1 earlier this month, taking four of the five varsity matches. They were back in action Thursday against Sky View as the Region 11 schedule continues.
AGGIE ALERT 🐮

USU Soccer Destroys BYU 4-0 on the Road
Utah State soccer made a pretty loud statement Thursday night. The Aggies didn’t just beat No. 13 BYU — they dominated the Cougars 4-0 in front of a record crowd of 3,181. It was USU’s second-highest ranked win ever and the largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in program history. Four different Aggies scored - Summer Sofonia, Summer Diamond, Solana Sellers, and Victoria Espinoza. Utah State also held BYU to just two shots on goal.
Before Manny Martins took over USU in 2021, BYU was 15-0 against Utah State. Since then, the Aggies are 4-2-2 against the Cougars. USU is also 4-0 against teams from Utah this season, outscoring them 14-1.
USU Volleyball Falls to Utah 3-0
Utah State Volleyball is still looking to find its rhythm this season. The Aggies fell to Utah in straight sets. Sami Blackett had 13 kills and nearly 3,500 fans packed the Spectrum. It’s been a rough start as the team’s record currently sits at 0-7. Lots of time left to turn things around.
